Guest Post//AW Trends: Inspired by Hitchcock//Drawdrobe

Hi everyone! I’m Natasha from Drawdrobe, and I’m super excited to be guest blogging here for Lucy! One of my favourite trends from the Autumn/Winter 2013 catwalks was the glamorous, ladylike atmosphere created by the Loewe, Prada and Louis Vuitton collections - and I’m going to demonstrate how you can recreate the look at high street prices.

Hitchcock’s heroines are characterised by their immaculate appearance: think Tippi Hedren’s perfectly styled up-do in The Birds and Kim Novak’s flawless natural makeup in Vertigo. They wear simple tailored suits or glamorous evening dresses, with lots of classics 40s-style accessories like wrist-length leather gloves, pearl necklaces and fur stoles.

Miuccia Prada created a Film Noir atmosphere on her catwalk with spinning fans and the shadows of blinds, cats and ravens projected onto the walls and the silhouettes of women outlined in the doorways. Luxurious fabrics and elegant tailoring characterised the clothes, much as they do in Hitchcock’s films; the key silhouette, a jacket nipped in at the waist, belted and paired with a full below-the-knee skirt, was straight out of Shadow of a Doubt

This glamorous and atmosphere catwalk trend can be easily translated into a more wearable everyday look. Choose different elements rather than a head-to-toe look to avoid your outfit looking too costume-y. Wearing a rounded-shouldered car coat is a great way to get a little of the 60s vibe into your usual daily outfits. Try a full skater skirt in a mid-knee length, a form-skimming shift dress, a structured ladylike handbag, or wrist-length leather gloves.
